Dr Ramendu Homchaudhuri

Dr. Ramendu Homchaudhuri, an esteemed orthopedic surgeon, is renowned for his expertise and compassionate care. A dedicated philanthropist, he leads initiatives to transform healthcare, education, and wellness for underserved communities.

Joining Rotary in 2006, Dr. Homchaudhuri quickly became a key member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta Sun City, serving two consecutive terms as President and spearheading significant club projects. Notably, he launched the Transit Trauma Care project with Kolkata Police, strategically placing 12 ambulances in accident-prone areas to provide immediate medical attention during the crucial "Golden Hour," thereby saving lives.

Dr. Homchaudhuri is a central figure in the fight against thalassemia. As the District Chair for Thalassemia Awareness and Prevention Committee of RID 3291, his efforts have had a profound impact across West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Bangladesh, and Nepal. He has organized numerous awareness seminars in over 300 educational institutions, collaborating with the Head of Institutions of Schools and Colleges, the Association of Headmasters and Headmistresses of West Bengal, the Medical Representative Association, and the Association of General Physicians. His campaigns aim to disseminate vital information about thalassemia to students, teachers, and the broader community.


Beyond practicing, Dr. Homchaudhuri actively engages with government entities, NGOs, and civil bodies to garner support and drive the thalassemia prevention campaign. His leadership has significantly contributed to raisingawareness and combating this preventable disease.


Additionally, Dr. Homchaudhuri is involved in a vital project to provide clean water to the water-scarce village of Dhaska in Purulia District. This initiative includes pond excavation, community development, and income-generation projects .
Elected as the District Governor for 2025-26, Dr. Homchaudhuri's relentless pursuit of humanitarian causes is supported by his accomplished spouse, Dr. Bandana Hom Chaudhuri, a distinguished pediatrician, and their children. Together, they embody a family ethos rooted in compassion and service, striving to create a brighter, more equitable world.
