Inmates of our Correctional Homes are among the most ignored sections of society. Once called jails, these spaces today are Correctional Homes — places meant for reform and human dignity. Yet many inmates continue to remain inside for years, even during ongoing trials. They live with uncertainty and very limited access to healthcare or hope.

Vocational Excellence Award Night

Friday, 12 September 2025, the heritage Marble Palace, Kolkata hosted a memorable Joint RFM & Vocational Excellence Awards evening. The program began with Aarti at the Jagannatha Temple at 6:15 PM, followed by the formal meeting and awards ceremony from 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM, and concluded with a fellowship dinner serving authentic vegetarian Bengali cuisine. The evening honoured three distinguished professionals for their outstanding contributions: Dr. Rakesh Rajput, Orthopaedic Surgeon, for excellence in advanced orthopaedic care. Dr. Mrinalendu Das, Cardiothoracic Surgeon & Humanitarian, for exceptional medical service and social impact. Mr. Sarbajit Rakshit, IBM Master Inventor, for innovation and leadership in technology. Rotarians and spouses joined in celebrating their achievements, reinforcing Rotary’s commitment to recognising vocational excellence and inspiring service above self.

Megha Sapling

On 17 August 2025 at 7:30 AM, Rotary Central Calcutta, in association with Atghara Sanhati Kendra, successfully organized the distribution of 1,500 fruit trees at Atghara, North 24 Parganas (near Haripur More, Bashirhat). The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability, enhance rural livelihoods, and encourage long-term ecological balance, benefitting local families and the community for years to come.

RSK Students Shine at Science City Drawing Competition Today, 30 students from Rotary Shiksha Kendra (RSK) — participated in a drawing competition at Science City. The event offered a vibrant platform for these young learners to showcase their creativity and imagination.

RCC Dakshindihi distributed 5 Cycle Vans Under District Grant Under the District Grant initiative for Rotary Year 2024–25, Rotary Community Corps (RCC) Dakshindihi distributed five cycle vans to needy beneficiaries in Dakshindihi, Hooghly. The project was initiated by the Rotary Central Calcutta to promote sustainable livelihoods and help families earn with dignity.

More than 800 children received essential stationery kits, including pencil boxes, crayons, and other study supplies. This initiative supports students, encouraging regular attendance and creative learning. By providing these basic tools, the project helps nurture education, reduce dropouts, and inspire young minds toward a brighter academic future

A new floor has been added to RSK School, creating additional classrooms and learning spaces to accommodate growing student needs. This expansion supports better academic infrastructure, encourages modern teaching methods, and provides a more comfortable environment for holistic education and future growth of the institution.

Tree Plantation

The club distributed 100 saplings to various RCC units as part of its green initiative, promoting environmental conservation and community participation. This drive encourages tree planting to enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and support Rotary’s focus on protecting the planet. RCC members pledged to nurture the saplings, ensuring long-term impact on local ecology and sustainable living.

On Saturday, 12th July, RCC Purba Dwarakapur distributed 4,000 banana saplings to families and students in the Pathar Pratima block (Sundarbans). A total of 980 beneficiaries received the saplings, including many children from a local school. This initiative was a small yet meaningful step toward supporting livelihoods and promoting a greener environment. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and made this possible.

Rotary Mobile Vision Van is a fully equipped eye-care clinic on wheels that brings free vision screening and primary eye care directly to the community. Staffed by trained optometrists, it conducts eye tests, detects cataract or refractive errors, and provides on-the-spot advice or referrals. This outreach ensures early detection, helps prevent avoidable blindness, and promotes safer, healthier living.

My Driver Eye Tested

Rotary Club of Central Calcutta organized a Driver Eye Testing Camp to promote road safety and community health. The camp offered free vision screening, quick check-ups, and on-the-spot guidance for corrective measures like spectacles or medical follow-up.
